Can you get an urgent or same day appointment at your MTF? Every time I've called ours when either DS or I have been sick, they say they have nothing for 4-5 days at least. They are always happy to refer off-base because of the rules about how fast you have to be seen, but I've never gotten a same day or even next day appointment for either of us.
I feel like this is not common, but DH is all "Well that's Tricare for you!"

No, but it's not Tricare's fault. Tricare doesn't run the MTF or control their manning. If I have an urgent issue, they get me a referral to go to urgent care in town.

I've only called once and they got me in within the hour. But I had a neck injury/concussion so i dont know if its just cause it was something that could have been worse. My problem is getting someone to actually answer the darn phone so I can try to make one.

I know it's not Tricare's fault. Our MTF is managed really poorly. I think they took an inventory of the number of dependents on base about 20 years ago and use that number to decide how many doctors we need. There are a lot more older/married guy and gals in UPT now than there were then. We need at least one more GP here and definitely another pedi.
I ended up in the ER this afternoon for the 3rd time since we've been here. I hate the ER and that I have to go for stupid shit because it's the only option.

We can usually get a same day appt but it's like within the hour most of the time so it's hard to get to.

Mel, I couldn't even get same day urgent care appointments with the OB when I was at NNMC. I am certain it has only gotten worse. I would just go to the ER or urgent care when I had to.
